Orthodoxy

Orthodoxy is translated from Greek as «Orthodoxy». In the Russian translation there is an association with the word «right» or «correct». Although in Greek «orthos» means «straight» or «correct». That is, the direct path to the Lord: you turn neither to the right nor to the left. And the word «doxia» means «opinion» or «thought.» Therefore, Orthodoxy means correct thoughts about God. Such a translation.

When did Orthodoxy appear in the world?

This term originated in the 4th century. In general, the Orthodox Church comes from the apostles. There was just a different word in ancient times. What we call Orthodoxy was called piety in the days of the first Christians. In the ancient sense, godliness is the right worship of God. The definition of the Orthodox Church has simply changed. It is all one reality that does not include false teaching. And from the first century, disagreements arose in Christianity. The Church does not know of a single period when everyone was united.

What do the Orthodox believe?

The dogma consists of four main points. The first is faith in the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These are not three gods. These are not three masks of the same deity. These are three divine personalities between whom there is a relationship and communication. And this relationship is love. Hence the main Christian commandment — love.

Secondly, Christ is God and man. Why is it important? God is invulnerable. And then he took on human flesh and soul to make himself vulnerable. Experience human suffering, both physical and mental. This brings God closer to us. And practical application — when we turn to the Lord in prayer, he understands us, because he felt it all here on earth.

The third is faith in the resurrection. After being crucified on the cross, Christ descended into hell and conquered death. He was resurrected flesh. And we believe that we will be resurrected in the flesh like Christ after His Second Coming. We believe that we will enter eternal life both in soul and in body. Therefore, bodily feats are also important in spiritual life. For example, marital fidelity. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. He belongs to Christ and the wife. Nobody else.

The fourth is faith in the church. Christians believe that without the church it is impossible to come to God. This is not a building. You need to get closer to other people. The most important thing is that we come together for prayer in the temple. You cannot approach God by moving away from other people.
